Biography

KATE BIESCHKE

Living and working in Los Angeles.

"I grew up a latchkey kid in Wisconsin. The first time I saw a disposable camera it was game over. I remember after we pulled into a gas station, I knew a camera was in the glove box, so I crawled over the seats and took it. From then on my mom would buy me disposable cameras as treats and I would go out adventuring with my brother and sister, capturing anything and everything.

I graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and moved to San Francisco. I would hang out at the grad studios at SFAI after work and made art in my bedroom of the apartment I shared with five other people. I built a 7' sculpture for Yerba Buena Night and showed at the Gwanghwamun International Art Festival in Seoul. I've been in California 10 years, 5 of those years being in LA."
